Travel Blog Post Idea’s To Drive Traffic (While You Can’t Travel)

Finding your niche in blogging is key to successful blogging and we all know that. The most successful blogs center around one main topic and revolve in smaller subtopics. This post is directed at travel bloggers who are looking for inspiration for travel blog post ideas for when you can’t travel. The good thing about this time is that while we’ve all been on the go-go-go train as travel bloggers, slowing down provides an incredible opportunity for us to reflect. Reflect on the things we’ve learned and the ways we can show up better for our readers.
The ideas below are more thematic in nature. They aren’t specific post ideas but the inspiration for finding posts that are right for you and your blog. Not every blog post is something you can write right now and the lists that are out there? Probably high competition and not a lot of real value right now.
The themes below are all about positivity and preparing for the future because that’s what people are actively looking for. And the best part is that these are all things you’re probably already doing! You don’t have to go crazy buying anything or doing things outside of your natural comfort zone as adventurers!
Blog Posts About Learning a New Language
Learning a new language is a great way to keep your audience and yourself engaged right now. For Ev and I – learning French has been a major way to keep our adventurous spirits alive. We’re planning on going to Canada, France, the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, and Belgium one day, and since we can’t go anywhere right now – it’s a great goal to have.
I plan on writing a blog post about all the resources we’re using to learn French and why we want to learn the language. All the places you can go etc. Doing something productive with our time is so much better than sitting around watching too much TV. (It’s inevitable that we’re all going to watch some TV but you can do more than just watch TV!)
Consider adding languages to your bucket list and talking to your followers about which ones feel the most valuable in your travels. Right now we’re using Busuu. It’s turning out to be one of the easiest apps to learn from! I had also been using ThaiPod to learn Thai before everything shut down. We had been planning on going to Thailand this year but that obviously couldn’t happen after about April. The biggest reason we switched languages is that Canada seems like the most likely target for out of country travel this year and they speak a majority French!

Travel Blog Post ideas About Teaching English Abroad
Many people want to teach English abroad during their travels but they don’t have time to complete the coursework. The courses range from 60-120 hours of work, and that’s hard to do while you’re working full time. For those who aren’t back to working full time- you could get this done in a month! This is one strategy I’m implementing right now and I plan to do a full blog post on it!
The best courses I’ve found are with iTTT, resources here. The International TEFL Academy has a ton of other classes and resources as well. For more information from iTTT please see here. For more information from a travel blogger who has completed her TEFL course and actually lived abroad, wander over to the ‘Go Overseas‘ blog.
Keep in mind that that’s her journey. Your main goal should be to document your journey and what your goals are to teach English abroad. Are you trying to become a digital nomad? Because if you are – someone out there is probably also trying to figure it out.

Travel Blog Post Ideas that Inspire Readers To Get Fit
As much as you probably think your physical fitness has nothing to do with your blog – I’m just gonna be upfront and say you’re wrong.
Blogging is a HARD job and you need to relieve that stress somehow? The best way is either creatively letting your emotions out through your blog, or physically exerting yourself to the point that you can focus. I’ve found so many times that when I’m not working out and I’m eating like crap- I can’t focus.
In a time when it would be really easy to become discouraged as a travel writer or a fashion blogger- I don’t have time to slack. WE, don’t have time to fail. If you dream of leaving your part-time job or your full-time job for something more fulfilling, you have to be able to become disciplined even when things suck. And suck they do my friend.
This is where working out comes in handy. If your blog is sinking, try diversifying what you’re blogging about? You could write about your fitness journey before your next trip. Maybe you want to climb a mountain on your next adventure but you know you couldn’t do it right now? That’s an absolutely worthy goal and blog topic for a travel blogger!

Travel Blog Post Ideas that Inspire Your Readers to Update Their Travel Gear
Besides baking endless amounts of banana bread and figuring out what to do with their kids – people are looking for ways to stay semi-productive. This means that of all the skills you’ve learned in your travels, (especially how to pack light and find quality gear) are about to majorly come in handy!
Location-specific guides may not be the biggest push right now but that doesn’t mean that you should give up on packing guides. People don’t always have the money to buy all the gear they need before a trip. That’s long term planning. If they’re planning for a beach trip next year – go ahead and refer them to on sale swimwear this fall or ways they can prepare now. By taking inventory of what you have and need to replace for your travels, you’ll already be doing research that could translate into blog posts!
(Also remember than most people shop SUPER far in advance for most holidays and vacations!)

Travel Blog Post Ideas To Entertain Your Readers
What are travel blogs going to post that will entertain your readers? To be honest- it’s a complete divergence from travel guides and packing guides and will require you to think differently. These posts need to be centered around content that makes a reader want to come back for recommendations.
Your entire goal with writing posts should be to help your readers or give them something to think about. A person like myself who doesn’t really like to watch TV { Unless it’s old movies or Gilmore Girls } would love book recommendations. So I wrote a post on my favorite travel novels right now and a post on great books for blogging motivation. What need am I satisfying? The need for people to have an escape. People are tired mentally of the civil unrest, the pandemic, the political sphere. They travel in the first place to escape the stressful things. Your blog can be a place of escape!
I also love hilarious travel stories as a means of connecting with readers and bringing them back. Some of my favorite posts I have planned are stories about our travel misadventures because they’re relatable! If you don’t feel like you can post about books or music or movies – blog about some of your favorite misadventures! It’s funny! And people want to know the mistakes you make while traveling. It’s humanizing!

Travel Blog Post Ideas About Cooking
Around the world eats and cooking! These are topics that make everyone feel like they’re getting a little vacation while your readers are still stuck at home. Ev and I always joke that we would travel for food!
- Drinks You’ve Tried
- Your Favorite Cuisines in
- Best Restaurants In Your Hometown
- Reliving your travels with theme nights.
Any of these are just fine for creating content that inspires while people can’t travel!

Travel Blog Posts About Bucket Lists
Bucket lists are how people start to travel. The best inspiration I’ve found for my bucket list is other people’s bucket lists! Experiences, types of food, hiking goals etc. There are SO many things you can add to a bucket list and it gives people hope!
People are absolutely sick of all the negativity! Bucket lists say that things will get better, we will travel again, the economy will get better. All the things that people are really hoping for – you can write about what inspired you to make your bucket list etc.

Travel Blog Post Ideas About Web-Design and Your Blogging Platform
All the things you’ve learned in your blogging journey? All the times you almost freaked out and had a crazy panic attack? Yeah – those are the posts we all REALLY need! Bloggers everywhere just had to get through a WordPress Update that broke coding on their blogs! There are things that even messed up my website and plugins that had to be edited to make my site work.
If you have anything to help solve someone else’s crisis – WRITE ABOUT IT! Blogging about blogging is an incredibly popular blogging niche! (Say that 5 times fast I dare you lol)
Another great thing to write about is learning to code. There has never been a better way to stay on top of your blog that to learn a bit of coding yourself! I’m currently learning to code and there are so many things I realize now I probably could’ve fixed myself – instead I’ve had to majorly panic and scour the internet for solutions. The solutions took me a solid week to fix sometimes and I’m not letting that happen again!

Travel Blog Posts ideas For Blog Marketing Strategies
From Pinterest marketing strategies to Instagram strategies – when it comes to blogging – giving is how you make friends with other bloggers. (And other bloggers will be much more interested in helping you in return!) Making friends with other bloggers = a support system. YOU NEED A SUPPORT SYSTEM!
Let me just tell you – there are some things you just can’t go through on your own. Blogging is HARD!
I think I’ve already said that once in this blog post but if you’ve ever read a post by Darren from ProBlogger: He talks about the ‘give, give, give, give and thennnn ask.‘ Not give then take. Sharing what you’ve learned as far as blog marketing strategies that have made you successful – you’re hitting a whole other level of outreach and expanding your potential audience.

Updating Old Blog Posts + Marketing Them As New Content
This is the best way to amp up your site. Any old posts you have – you need to go back and update them with new affiliate links. There are probably quite a few packing guides out there that could use some sprucing! When you’re done – market them as packing guides for this year or any year really?
Just be sure not to change any permalink structures when you do. Keep in mind Pinterest’s updated algorithm – you need fresh content! (Fresh content is defined as new graphically designed pins – Pinterest is a visual search engine!)5-10 new pins a week, manual pinning strategies etc. I plan on writing all the things that have worked recently!

Don’t Forget Blog Housekeeping!
Yes. You’re worried about creating new content and driving traffic.. but that doesn’t mean that blog housekeeping shouldn’t be done while we’re all panicking. Just recently I figured out how to add an affiliate disclosure to every post automatically. If you have any interest in monetizing your blog – you should be adding an affiliate disclosure too!
Little things like that make the user experience better because it establishes trust. The more professional your site looks, and FEELS, the more you’ll draw in readers! Things like ads, disclosures, and sharing buttons all lend themselves to a more trustworthy looking site.
If you’re feeling particularly low about your blog right now – here are some great book recommendations to give you motivation! This lull in adventuring won’t last forever!
