The Perfect Mom Jeans For Every Season: Capsule Closet Staples

Post Updated December 2020
Mom jeans are the ultimate staple for my {Shelbs} travel wardrobe. I’ve realized they work with so many things and make every outfit instantly chic. {Hate the word chic because it sounds so snobby – but it’s true!} Mom jeans look good on every body type and almost any occasion.
Your Favorite Travel Jeans
We’re not fashion bloggers by any means – but we are committed to sustainability. For Ev and I, this means trying to buy less ‘things’ and experience more. To buy fewer things – you need to start pieces for your wardrobe that you’ll actually wear. Mom jeans fit perfectly into creating a capsule wardrobe for the average wandering woman because they are so comfortable!
Multiple long road trips, walking around for hours, and getting ready for date nights are all made easy with ‘mom jeans’! You really shouldn’t have any trouble finding them either because everyone is super into the easy fashion, especially after 2020.
How Should Mom Jeans Fit
The best way to know if you found a good pair of mom jeans is how they fit your body. Do they hug your butt, fit well through the thighs, and not fall down your hips when you walk or bend over? Then you know they’re perfect. So far, I’ve invested in a light-wash pair, and I think next time, it’ll be a black pair like the Boxwash by Madewell pair below!

Where To Find Mom Jeans
All of the retailers have a more laid back stylish vibe that translates across all seasons. Many more retailers make them- but if you’re looking for a quality pair and you don’t know where to start- I always suggest these retailers for anything in general: Everlane, Free People, Levi’s, Madewell, Nordstrom, and Old Navy. All are going to have options for straight leg mom jeans!
Old Navy is where I found mine, and they’ve been perfect – plus, they have tall sizes! (The last three pair on this list are from old navy!) After these wear out from the fact that I wear them so often and decide, I want another pair – Everlane and Madewell the brands will probably be top of my list. Both companies are dedicated to high quality and long-lasting materials.

- Levi’s Wedgie Icon High-Rise Jeans sold by Free People – the ultimate boho-chic retailer!!
- 501 Original Fit Women’s Jeans by Levis. The fit that hasn’t changed in over 40 years. They looked good on your mom in the 60s and they’ll look good on you now.
- The Curvy Cheeky Straight Jean by Everlane – The whole goal of their curvy denim line is to ‘eliminate the waist gap’. The perfect pair for any curvy gals! https://www.everlane.com/products/womens-curvy-cheeky-straight-jean-classic-blue?collection=womens-jeans
- The Perfect Vintage High Waist Jeans at Nordstrom – The most trendy and chic pair on this list!
- Ripped High Waist Straight Leg Mom Leans by BP– This pair reminds me of hipsters in chunky knit sweaters and I find that so endearing! (Used to live in the ‘Highlands’ of Louisville where the hipsters roam wild and free.)
- The Perfect Vintage High Waist Jeans by Madewell – These are 40% off right now making them the perfect budget pair from Nordstrom where you can find so many other trendy items for all of your year-end shopping.
- Boxmoor Wash Strait Leg Jeans by Madewell – The deep charcoal straight leg jean you didn’t know your closet needed! These are a perfect wintery trendy pair – but would also look great in the spring with more edgy tanks and black ankle wrap sandals.
- Budget Ripped Straight Pair by Old Navy – If you’re looking for a good all-around budget pair – This pair would be my pick!!
- Raw Hem Mom Jeans by Old Navy – Best budget find for the deconstructed look.
- High Waisted Relaxed Fit by Old Navy – The best farmers market wandering pair on the block.

How To Care For Your Strait Leg Jeans
We’re all about longevity in pieces we buy regardless of where they’re from. It doesn’t matter if you buy a budget-friendly pair from Old Navy or a higher-end pair from Free People – wash on cold, hang to dry! Happy shopping!
Until next time friends,
